With 673 students in grades 10–12, the school was classified by the NJSIAA for the 2019–20 school year as Group II for most athletic competition purposes, which included schools with an enrollment of 486 to 758 students in that grade range.
He currently serves on nine board of directors, including Forward High Point, Southwest Renewal Foundation, Communities in Schools, and is the President of the Southside Neighborhood Association. An emergency cardiology specialist by training, Hoekstra is credited with developing a network of 14 emergency rooms across the region that are managed by Wake Forest Baptist Health. He’s also helped integrate Cornerstone Health Care, a large, multi-specialty physician practice based in High Point, and Wilkes Medical Center into the Wake Forest Baptist system in the last few years. “We had the highest quality scores, and the lowest cost of any of the that actually saved money,” said former Cornerstone CEO Dr. Grace Terrell, who still sees patients a few days a month in High Point while also leading a genomic medicine start-up in Alabama and juggling consulting gigs. For other practices, though, the value offered by health systems is clearer. Many outpatient services, which don’t require an overnight stay in the hospital, can be provided in a hospital or in a physician’s office.
