Ever wondered where the buses go when they’re not on the road? Or what about how we keep our buses shiny and clean? Or how about what Halifax Transit mission control looks like?
Join us for a little sneak peek behind the scenes tour of our two transit facilities—Burnside and Ragged Lake!
With over 350 vehicles in our fleet, regular maintenance is a daily thing. Keeping our buses on the road in tip-top shape is a 24/7 job!
It takes a lot of different pieces—both big and small—to maintain our fleet.
Every year our busses travel more than 16 million km in total—the equivalent of 22 round trips to the moon. That’s a lot of tires!
How do you wash a bus? In a bus-sized bus wash, of course! Our Ragged Lake facility collects rain water that is stored in massive underground reservoirs which we use to keep our fleet sparkling.
This is the nerve centre of Halifax Transit. The entire fleet is monitored at all times by two Network Supervisors in the Operations Centre. And now, thanks to the new technology being installed on each and every bus, they can see where each bus is on the road at all times and respond to potential issues more quickly and easily.
